Taking plenty of time to exploring the island’s countryside and its beaches by car, or on foot will reveal its bountiful beauty. However in order to fully appreciate the lie of the island, and its wild and unspoilt nature, make sure to rent out a boat for at least 1 or 2 days of your stay. There are many parts of Skopelos’ coastline that you can only access by sea-for example the coast between the town and Stafilos is craggy with sheer cliffs, but here you can find several small pebble beaches, sea caves and you will spot many seabirds and possibly some dolphins.
Another stunning stretch of coast lies between Kastani and Elios. Many people who rent a boat arrive here, find an idyllic sandy cove all to themselves, and can’t bear to tear themselves away from the same spot until the very end of the day. Renting a boat will also give you the chance to get close to the tiny forested island of Dassia, off Panormos, with its little sea cave that you can swim through. Just be sure to take a picnic with you and plenty of sun-cream. Cool boxes and sun-canapes on the boats are supplied.
